Poker Sit n Go (also known as SNG or SnG) poker continues to grow in popularity. Most of SnG's will be a single table tournament of 9 or 10 players, depending on the site you play at and most of them offer a 6 player SnG. SnG's allow for a player to buy in for a specific amount and as soon as the table fills up the play starts. This allows for players to start play very quickly. SnG's do not take as long as multi table tournaments. Usually a Sit and go will be over in less than an hour. Though there are SnG's that are turbo and super turbo that will be over in even less time.

There are many things that players like about SnG's. For a little investment a player can gain experience in many facets of tournament play. Full table play, short-handed play, bubble play and heads-up. The buy in range will suit any players bankroll. By far the most popular SnG poker game played is no limit holdem. All types of poker are played in SnG's. Texas Holdem, Omaha, Stud, and Draw. A full list of SnG game types will be included at the end. The type that is allowed is determined by the poker site. Buy ins range from free to thousands of dollars. With such a variety to choose from most players will have no problem finding their favorite poker game being offered at the buy in level that they feel comfortable with. Having these type of options allows for players to play when they want to.

For the 9 or 10 player SnG's prize money is spread out for the top 3 finishers, 50% for 1st place, 30% for 2nd place and 20% for third place. The short table SnG play with 6 players and the top 2 will win money, typically 65% for first and 35% for 2nd. Play is the same as tournament poker, with blinds increasing at a set rate. Each player will receive a set amount of chips to start with (determined by the poker site).

Strategy for this particular form of poker varies depending on your playing style. You are encouraged to read some articles on strategy before jumping in. In the beginning stages it is better to play tight. This is a good time to get some reads on your opponents . Middle stage will allow you to loosen up a little and hopefully at this stage you will have seen a few players eliminated. In the late stage it is time to open up your game (depending on your stack size). Getting to the money is the priority and once you have accomplished this it is then time go for first place.
